History of Honda
October 1946 saw the establishment of the Honda Technical Research Institution in Hamamatsu in Japan, it was established by Soichiro Honda was built to develop and produce small 2-cycle motorbike engines. Just 2 years later, Honda Motor Company Ltd was born and opened its first storefront in LA in 1959. The 1960s saw the start of Honda motorcycle production at its Suzuki Factory and in the late 60’s the production of autos. The company also released its first sports car (S500) in Japan, and its first F1 victory in Mexico. The well known Honda Civic debuts in 1972, shortly after the Civic is ranked first in the U.S fuel economy tests for the 4th year in a row. Later on in 1983 it also wins first place for the gasoline-car fuel consumption in U.S tests. Honda has a number of victories in the Motocross world and wins 500cc Motocross World Champions title for 3 consecutive years in a row starting from 1978. Honda wins the Isle of Man TT. In 1982 Honda of America manufacturing begins assembly of the Honda Accord which later becomes the best selling car model in the United States; Soichiro Honda becomes first Asian to be inducted into U.S. Automotive Hall of Fame. Fast forward toe the new millennium and Honda still continues to make breakthroughs in the automotive world. 2000 saw Honda breaking ground by creating a new $440 million auto plant near Lincoln, Alabama. The Honda Accord is again the best selling car in America and also wins the CART Manufacturers Championship for the 4th time. Hondas trophy case is impressive; the company has gone from strength to strength and has created some of the most fuel efficient clean air motors in the world. 2003 saw the 10 millionth Honda vehicle manufactured in the US.
